I don’t like metal, I get scared. I am not sure why. Maybe it has something to do with the overwhelming power of its music, or with its overflowing energy, of with its lights and shadows. Or perhaps it is because of its lyrics that do not hace prejudices. These are the reasons that motivated me to carry out this project.
In the middle of the world, a place where according prehispanic cultures converges the energy of the Pachamama (Mother Earth), in a country where its population is largely catholic and where religious icons spy from everywhere, a social phenomenon was born a few decades ago: Metal.
For common people, metal is only noise, alcohol and drugs. Nothing more. But for the people that lives it, it is another way of expression, another art form with which they can funnel their feelings and thoughts. This music genre is also characterised by its non conventional lyrics that criticise society, speak about taboo themes or are an open provocation to popular and religious beliefs.
With this essay I tried to capture the power, the darkness, the protest, the provocation. But among all I tried to get closer to the feelings and motivations that move these people. And I am not afraid anymore.
